Poco F1 by Xiaomi (6GB RAM, 64GB Storage)
Hey Guys it’s Pushpak from Pushpak Solutions, and I finally got my hands on the new POCO F1. Ever since it was announced, So today we start with its unboxing. The phone comes in this simple black box with POCO F1 branding all around. Behind the box, we see some of its features like, it packs in a Snapdragon 845 processor and it uses liquid cooling system to prevent this phone from overheating. It has got AI dual cameras with Dual pixel auto focus and packs in a giant 4000 mAh battery. It is also made in India and I have got the Graphite Black coloured phone with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. This variant retails for Rs.20,999. And there are 2 more options with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage which is available for Rs.23,999, and the 8 GB RAM 256 GB Storage variant is available at Rs.28,999. There is also a premium Armour-ed edition, with top specs and a Kevlar back, and it retails at Rs.29,999.
As we lift the lid, we are greeted with a yellow box. In this first envelope, we have some paper work like User guide, warranty and regulatory information and a thin TPU case for the phone. We then have the phone itself, which is abut on the chunkier side, But I don’t mind this bulk at all, since it packs in a 4000 mAh battery inside. Then there is this 18 watt wall adapter included right into the box, which is always a good sight. Then there is this USB type C cable for charging and data transfer, and a SIM card removal pin. Back of the phone is made of Poly carbonate and I am not sure how I feel about it yet. It definitely does not feel premium. We have also got used to metal and glass back phones, so it might take some time for me to get used to the poly carbonate back. POCO calls this colour Graphite Black, but it is just grey colour. It is just something that you guys should know, if you are looking to get this colour. Now I understand, colour might not be a huge deal for some people, I am not one of them and frankly I am a bit disappointed, as looking at all their marketing images, I thought the colour would be much darker.
Anyways, moving on to the cameras. It has a dual camera setup at the back. Primary camera has a 12 megapixel sensor with F/1.9 aperture and large pixel size of 1.4 micron. Secondary camera has a 5 Megapixel sensor with F/2.0 aperture. Just below the camera is a fingerprint sensor. It is very fast and accurate, like we see on most of the Xiaomi devices. To compliment the fingerprint sensor, you also get infrared face unlock on this phone. It is much more accurate and reliable than the face unlock on other android phones, specially in lower light. The hardware for this face unlock feature, sits inside the notch above the display. There you will also find the earpiece speaker and some other tech like proximity and ambient light sensors.
Speaking of the display, its a 6.18 inch IPS LCD screen, with a resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. There is a big chin at the bottom and a notch at the top, but the overall remaining bezels on this phone are also not very small, compared to some of the other devices. Since this phone is not exactly slim, POCO was able to put in a 3.5 mm audio jack. Another good addition is a hybrid sim slot. You can either use 2 nano sim cards, or a nano sim and a micro sd card with this phone. It is always nice to have the option to expand the storage. At the bottom we get a speaker grill, microphone, and a USB type C port. On the right side, we have very thin volume and power buttons. These are tactile and give a very satisfying feedback, but they are a bit too think for my liking.
Inside, this phone is packed with a Snapdragon 845 processor, Adreno 630 GPU, 6 or 8 GB or RAM and 64/128/256 GB of internal storage. POCO has used Liquid cooling to make sure that this phone can sustain its peak performance for a longer time, compared to other smartphones. There is a 4000 mAh battery powering this device,so you should expect it to last for a long time on a single charge. And when it is time to charge it up, it supports Qualcomm’s Quick charge 3.0 and comes with an 18 watt charger, so you can juice it up pretty quick. Now I have had this phone for just a couple of hours, so I don’t know how is its real life battery performance, for how long does it take to go from 0-100%. But I will be using it for a few days as my main phone, and then let you guys know about all these things.
It is running a custom version on MIUI, specifically designed for the POCO phone, and its build on top of Android Oreo 8.1. I don’t know how I feel about this OS, coz I have not spent a lot of time exploring it. But in this short time, I definitely encountered a few bugs here and there. POCO pushed out a software update, which fixed a few bugs, and they say, another software is coming next week, which should fix more issue that users might be facing. I will be testing this phone out for the next few days, by playing a lot of games, running benchmarks, taking lot of images, and overall putting it under lot of stress.
Right now, all I can tell you is, this is not the best looking or the most premium feeling phone in the market, but it is definitely the one, which offers you most value for your money specs wise. POCO has obviously cut some corners in making this phone so affordable.
